Beyond Gaming
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
I'm a busy person with limited time to devote to Ark, but I do want to try PvP. How can I use the PvE/PvP hybrid aspect of Beyond Gaming to my advantage?
This why the cluster is for you!
The hybrid system is perfect for a player with these circumstances. But you have to be willing to break out of your comfort zone a little bit.
Our best advice is to first learn to differentiate what you should and shouldn't allow yourself to get attached to, and plan your builds and advancements accordingly.
At your PvE base, by all means allow yourself to get attached. That base and those tames aren't going anywhere. If you build up on one of the PvE maps, you'll always have a base to fall back on and call home.
We value and encourage this practice. We don't want to see people get fully wiped from the game because this community is built up of people that don't have the time to start back at square one every time they get raided.
We encourage you to raid and be raided on the PvP maps. Have fun, wipe each other, learn from the PvP experience, tailor your new strategies accordingly, and keep the game going.
You still have a fully operative base on a PvE map to fall back on and give yourself a boost with getting up and running again. Take advantage of that, be positive about it, get back up, and keep playing the game!
When you venture out to build in PvP, practice changing your mentality a little bit. Build smaller, build hidden, and don't let yourself become too attached to your projects.
On your PvE map, breed some tames to bring with you that you'll need (resource gatherers, soakers, what have you). DON'T name them! Bring over some unnamed tames, utilize them, and make peace with the fact they're probably going to get stolen or killed.
It's okay, that's PvP. You have your tames your attached to back at your PvE base. At the end of the day, you may lose some stuff and it's okay. That's competition and that's PvP.
Please use and abuse the hybrid structure of the cluster to get out and learn PvP. Have fun and encourage good competition amongst each other. We want to see you succeed!
Success comes from failing forward. Get back up and get moving again. That's the spirit of Beyond Gaming.
Why does Beyond Gaming have the PvE / PvP Hybrid transfer system?
Having open transfers across the board discourages healthy PvP. Players will find no reason to raid each other if they keep all of their loot on a PvE map. If you bring things to a PvP map from a PvE map, you can't bring it back.
You have to protect it.
This also allows the opportunity for players to try and raid for their loot back. Whoever raided you and took your items, cannot transfer back to a PvE map where it can never be won back. That person still has it on a PvP map somewhere, and it can always be won back.
Why are some Admin Shop items more expensive for PvE?
As discussed above, PvE maps by nature are OP. Admin Shops, by nature, are also very OP. After much discussion amongst the BG admin, it was determined it would be healthy for the server to have the Admin Shop an available buff/resource that benefits and incentivizes PvP moreso than PvE.
Fun fact, originally on ASE, the BG Admin Shop was exclusively for PvP only. Later on, we decided to open it up to both PvE and PvP, but give PvP the benefit of a discount!
This helps encourage PvP amongst players and helps discourage over-hoarding on PvE maps. For additional information regarding the Admin Shop, please visit Admin Shop or Admin Shop Help.
Why are there minimal rules to the server?
At Beyond Gaming, your admin has a slew of experience among hosting different types of Ark servers, both PvE and PvP.
At BG, we wanted to try something new. Being hands off as much as possible. We have two official rules here.
No meshing
No hate speech.
Breaking these rules can result in a ban from the cluster.
Outside of the official rules, we have a general Code of Conduct.
This Code of Conduct involves simply not being a dick to other players and not being toxic. If a player accuses another player of being toxic, being a dick, harassing/griefing, etc, then the admins will evaluate the scenario, utilize discretion, and handle the complaints on a case-by-case basis.
From there, the admin's call will be the end-all be-all to resolution of the conflict. To help with complaints, please have videos or screenshots available.
Admins will not make game-changing decisions toward players purely off hearsay, "he said/she said", complaints.
Can Admin assist me with getting my stuff back after having things stolen on a PvE map?
No.
Stealing is not against any rules. If you are new to playing PvE, please do not be mistaken that PvE means your stuff cannot be accessed. PvE means your stuff cannot be damaged. People cannot C4 into your base and raid you like they can on a PvP map.
However, if your base is wide open with things left out and not pin-coded and/or locked, your things can and will be accessed by thieving players.
Don't let yourself be burgled!
Keep outside storage locked and/or pin-coded. By default, all structures are automatically locked on PvE as a server setting to help mitigate theft. So... Just don’t unlock things.
This is all you have to do on a PvE map to keep from being stolen from. Admin will not get involved for failure to take these minimal steps to protect your loot.
I got Ark'd. Can you please roll back the server for me?
Likely not.
A server roll back will only occur in the event of a catastrophic disaster that affects the community as a whole.
A roll back due to you simply falling victim to Ark nonsense will not be justifiable, especially if it affects the progress of other players.
I'm sorry whatever happened, happened. But I assure you, we've all been there. We've all lost tames, items, etc to Ark being Ark. It's the nature of the game, get back up and move forward!
How does Tek auto-unlocking at Level 85 affect unlocking Tek via a boss fight on the auto-unlock map?
Tek auto-unlocks at 85 is a perk available on some maps. Please see Unique Map Boosts and Perks for details.
This is so we have just a couple of maps people can achieve Tek on without a bossfight, i.e. easy-mode maps.
Tek auto-unlocking at Level 85 overrides the action for it to be unlocked via a bossfight, or "special event" as it's referred to in settings. Therefore, defeating a boss on an auto-unlock map will not unlock those Tekgrams. (This has been verified with support staff from Beacon.)
The difference between Tekgrams auto-unlocking versus unlocking via special event:
Tekgrams unlocked via special event carry with your character across maps. - I.e. If you beat the Broodmother on The Island, you have access to Tek Turrets on all maps.
Tekgrams auto-unlocked at 85 on an auto-unlock map do not carry with your character across maps.
Access to those Tekgrams remain limited to the maps they were auto-unlocked on, only.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you are below level 85 when you defeat a boss on an auto-unlock map, the Tekgrams will permanently unlock for you and be tied to your character.
To receive tekgrams from a bossfight on an auto-unlock map permanently for your character, follow these steps:
Take a screenshot of your implant showing the bossfight was completed.
Submit a Support Ticket in the #Support-and-help-ticket channel in the discord.
Inform an admin of the request. When available, an admin will ask you to travel to a non auto-unlock map and will remotely execute a “defeatboss” command that will resolve the issue.
